The new Sapphire Generic/Promotional and Forecourt range on Sapplive

Hi All

The new Sapphire Generic/Promotional and Forecourt range has been launched on the Sapphire Website.

This is a important opportunity for Sapphire to expand our market to  new clients and will hopefully lead to additional avenues of growth for our company

Please note the following procedures have been put in place:

  • All leads/orders/queries from the website will be sent to Jo-Ann in CPT.
  • Once she has received the queries she will forward it on to Mardi and this will be allocated as follows
    • Total – Francois
    • Oil – Sean  Absa/Absa Agency/Bayport/ ESTEQ | Marketing/Matchworld
    • VW & Audi –  Francois, Bernard, Kathryn
    • Forecourt Equipment general stock orders: Loromy in CPT and Bianca in JHB
    • General Enquiries/Leads – Francois, Bernard, Sean, Kathryn, Deirdre, Friederike (Mardi will allocate accordingly)

  • The reason for channelling everything through Jo-Ann is that she will compile a list of all leads/enquiries and send Mardi the list once a month. She will also be following up with the clients and account executives throughout the process.
  • Please browse the website and familiarise yourself with the items we are offering.
  • From October we will be running specials on certain items as well. This will be communicated to everyone on a monthly basis.

Should you have any queries with regards to the ranges please do not hesitate to contact Mardi or Michelle:

Welcome to the Sapphire Intranet

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to our Sapphire intranet. Today marks a new stage in our growth with the launch of our company Intranet. Growth produces enormous challenges and perhaps the largest one is communication not only with clients but internally too. The intranet gives all of us an amazing opportunity to talk to each other – keep everyone abreast of developments both personally and businesswise. With this access comes a security risk. I would ask everyone  to please keep this in mind and never share or allow anyone access using your details. I had a chance to look and use it yesterday and was quite amazed at the ease and incredible functionality. I really believe this will make us all more together by sharing the work we do, sharing news, problems and answers. This is OUR intranet and would please ask everyone to use it daily because it was developed for us to increase our knowledge of each other, of Sapphire and what we are all doing.

Please use it and enjoy this powerful opportunity,
Graham

How seriously do you take your pricing?

Pricing is one of the fundamental drivers of a business. It is worth shining a light on how it works within a business as any improvements in pricing go straight to the profitability line or as accountants say, they go straight to the bottom line.
The issues

There is plenty to look at in pricing:

  • Are price points per customer optimised? Taking into account the competition how much demand is there per product, product group etc? Is the demand matched to the price you set?
  • How much management attention is given to discounts? Are there trade discounts (e.g. wholesalers get a standard 15% discount whereas retail gets 10%)? Are there additional trade deals with individual customers, such as volume discounts, seasonal price reductions etc? Do these discounts make commercial sense?
  • Who has the power to implement these discounts? If it is a sales function, how much management oversight is there?
  • Are any attempts made to measure the benefit of discounts or to establish how much discounts cost your business?
  • What type of analysis is done on credit notes? Are they categorised (price difference, incorrect goods sent, breakages, short supplied) and investigated to see if they can be reduced? Are they measured month by month? What do studies show?

It is interesting to look at a study done by Deloittes. They examined 100 case studies which focused on pricing and found that on average a 3.2% benefit was achieved. Some delivered over 20% while some delivered 1%. The study also showed that in many cases results were achieved within eight to ten weeks of beginning an investigation. What is also interesting about the study is that in examining businesses’ pricing policies, benefits were experienced in other areas such as marketing, order management, logistics and management accounting.

Management is the art of motivating staff, organising and controlling a business. Examining pricing can lead to substantial benefits – 3.2% pricing improvement means a 3.2% profitability gain. Strengthening and controlling your pricing policy will result in an improved business.
